flottra vs Socinator: what to use for X accounts now that Socinator has closed

This page is for people who ran X accounts through Socinator and now need something else, and for anyone who found the Socinator name and wants to know whether it is still an option. The short answer: Socinator announced its closure in December 2025, its code is on GitHub, and flottra replaces only the X part of what it did.

What happened to Socinator

Socinator's own goodbye page, published 10 December 2025, reads: "After years of helping you automate, grow, and simplify your digital workflows, Socinator is officially closing down." It goes on: "we are making Socinator's entire codebase open-source, so anyone who wants to rebuild, reimagine, or continue the tool can do so freely." The page gives no reason for the closure, and this page does not guess at one.

The code followed on 10 February 2026, when the socinatoradmin/socinator repository was created under the GPL-3.0 licence. Since about March 2026, the socinator.com homepage has pitched something else: AI agents that create and publish content, at "$4.99 per Agent / per Profile", billed monthly. When checked on 24 September 2026, every button on that page ("Deploy Agents", "Start Deploying", "Contact Sales") linked nowhere. It is also a publishing tool, not the engagement bot people knew.

What Socinator did well

Socinator was a serious piece of software, and for some people nothing on this page replaces it.

• Nine networks in one app. Its October 2025 homepage (Wayback copy) listed Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, YouTube, Quora, Reddit and Pinterest. If you ran accounts on several of those, one licence covered them all. flottra is X only, so for a mixed setup Socinator was the better fit, and still would be if it were sold.
• A long X action list. Its Twitter feature page lists "Auto Follow/ Unfollow", "Auto Like & Unlike", "Auto Retweet & Repost", "Auto Reply Messages", "Broadcast Messages", scraping, RSS posting and spintax. flottra has no unfollow, DM or retweet at all.
• Many accounts for little money. The last listed plans were Team at $24.9 a month billed annually for 70 social accounts, and Business at $41.6 a month for 150.
• A proxy per account. "Run each Twitter account on its own HTTP proxy to avoid leaving an IP footprint", which is the same basic idea flottra enforces.

Running the open-source code yourself

The GPL-3.0 licence lets you build, run and change the code, provided you share changes you distribute under the same licence. The README describes the path: a WPF app on .NET Framework 4.8, with each network in its own branch (the X one is twtdominator-library). You clone the core branch and each network branch into one folder, open the solution in Visual Studio with the .NET Framework 4.8 developer pack, build in Release mode, and run Socinator.exe.

How flottra differs

flottra is a web panel plus a Windows desktop app. The panel keeps the schedule: which account does what, and when. The app runs on your own computer and opens a real, visible browser for each account to do the work there. No browser runs on flottra's servers, and nothing is ever headless.

• One profile, one proxy, one fingerprint per account. Each account keeps its own browser profile, with its cookies in its own folder on your disk. It runs in flottra's own Chromium-based engine with a fingerprint fixed to that account, the same on every launch. Time zone and language follow the proxy's exit address. A proxy is required: without one, the account's browser does not open (see proxies for X accounts and antidetect browsers for X).
• Pacing built in. Follows run at most one per account every five minutes, six an hour by default and 80 a day as the growth default, inside 09:00 to 22:00 on the account's own clock. The warming gate holds a new account to 3 actions a day with no follows for its first three days, then 6, then 12, and opens after two weeks.
• Following from a pasted list of up to 500 usernames per account, plus optional discovery through X people search (auto follow).
• Text posts of up to 280 characters, one-off from the panel or from a posting routine written with your own AI key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Mistral, xAI, DeepSeek or Groq) or by your own agent over MCP. flottra sells no AI credits.
• Likes and replies only through Pods (Pro and Team: 3 to 6 of your own accounts pointed at one target in mixed order, spaced out) or tasks scheduled over MCP. You supply the reply text.
• Profile work: display name, bio, website, avatar, header, username and password, one account or many; plus session checks and a "Start now" button that opens an account's own browser for you to use by hand.

Pair a computer with an 8-character one-time code; the connection is outbound only, with no port to open. Every plan allows unlimited computers, and each one runs one task at a time, so more computers means more parallel work. The full list is on the features page.

What flottra does not do

Set against Socinator, these are the gaps that matter:

• No network other than X: no Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube or the rest.
• No unfollowing, no non-follower cleanup.
• No DMs, retweets, quotes, threads, polls, or image and video posts.
• No automatic like or reply routine, and no AI-written replies.
• No scraping exports and no post analytics.
• No captcha solving: an email or phone check at login stops and waits for you.
• No macOS, Linux or mobile app, and no cloud browser: if your computer is off, tasks wait.
• No datacenter proxies (residential, mobile or ISP only, over HTTP), and flottra does not sell proxies or accounts.

X rules and risk

X's automation rules (marked "Updated April 2026") say not to "Use non-API-based forms of automation, such as scripting the X website. The use of these techniques may result in the permanent suspension of your account." They add: "You may not like posts or hide replies in an automated manner" and "You may not follow or unfollow X accounts in a bulk, aggressive, or indiscriminate manner."

Socinator never said on its site how it talked to X; its released X module contains both an HTTP request layer and an embedded browser. flottra drives the X website in a real browser. Either way, that is scripting the X website, and the same rule risk applies to both. flottra is not compliant with these rules and does not claim to be. What it changes is the shape of the activity: slow ramps, hourly caps, and accounts kept apart by profile, proxy and fingerprint on your own machine. The official API is no easy way out for engagement either. X's API changelog says that from April 2026 "Following, Likes, and Quote-Posts via the API have been removed from all self-serve tiers." For posting only, an API scheduler is the lower-risk route (what actually works on X).

Pricing compared

Socinator is no longer sold as the desktop bot. Its last listed plans, from its October 2025 homepage (Wayback copy above): Team $24.9 a month billed annually for 70 social accounts, and Business $41.6 a month billed annually for 150, with a free trial. The current AI agents page lists $4.99 per agent per profile a month, with no working sign-up when checked on 24 September 2026.

flottra's plans are on the pricing page: Free at $0 for 2 accounts with no card, Starter $39 a month for 10, Pro $99 for 40, Team $299 for 150, and $4 a month per extra account. Every plan allows unlimited computers; Pods need Pro or Team. Prices exclude VAT. flottra is in open beta: card payment is not open yet, and paid plans are set up directly by email. Accounts count for X only, where Socinator's 70 or 150 were shared across all its networks.

What to use now

• Build Socinator from GitHub if you have the .NET skills to maintain it, need several networks in one app, and accept that you would be the maintainer.
• Choose TwitterDub if you want a paid desktop bot for X with unfollow, DMs and retweets that is still being updated.
• Choose an API scheduler if you only need to post on X; see the Typefully comparison.
• Choose flottra if your work is on X, across many accounts, and you want each one in its own real browser, proxy and fingerprint on your own computer, with pacing and a warming gate you do not have to set up.

Moving from Socinator to flottra

• Import the accounts in bulk, one per line: username:password[:email[:emailpassword[:2fasecret]]][:auth_token]. An auth_token cookie is the recommended login; a password with a 2FA secret also works, and the app generates the code.
• Give each account its own proxy. The HTTP proxies you used in Socinator can carry over if they are residential, mobile or ISP; datacenter ones are refused.
• Expect the warming gate. It counts from the day an account is added to flottra, not from the account's age on X, so a years-old account also starts at 3 actions a day, and the posting routine waits 14 days.
• Pair your computer with the one-time code, and start on the free plan with two accounts through the beta.
