flottra vs TwitterDub: a TwitterDub alternative that runs a real browser per account

This page is for people who run TwitterDub today, or who found it while looking for an X bot and want to know what else exists in 2026. It compares TwitterDub with flottra on how each one acts on X, what it can do, what it costs and what risk it carries, including the places where TwitterDub is plainly ahead.

TwitterDub is not a dead product being replaced. It is made by RootJazz, it has been sold since a 1.003 beta in June 2015, and its download page lists version 3.924 dated 13 September 2026. The question is not whether it still works but whether its approach suits how you run accounts.

What TwitterDub is and what it does well

TwitterDub is a Windows application (it needs the Microsoft .NET framework) that runs your X accounts from your own machine. Its product page is direct about the method: "this does *not* use the Twitter API. Twitterdub automates exactly the HTTP REQUEST communications as if you performed the actions in your web browser yourself." Since late 2024 the changelog also shows a separate Chrome based "bridge" that handles login, cookie generation and a session browser, so today it is a hybrid of direct requests and a browser.

What it covers, from its own feature pages:

• Nearly every X action. Search and follow, unfollow (including users who did not follow back), like and unlike, comments, retweets and quote retweets, and posting of text, images, video and audio, with scheduling and RSS feeds.
• DMs. Direct messages to followers, a DM on each new follower, and inbox auto-responders keyed on trigger words.
• Fleet actions. Mass follow, mass like and mass retweet, pointing many of your accounts at one account or post.
• Scraping and search. A custom search builder, list, user and email scrapers, and streams that watch keywords or profiles in real time.
• Operator tools. Unlimited accounts, spintax, delays and drip feed scheduling, "account safeguards", captcha API support, per account proxies, import and export of profiles and proxies, and an LLM module for writing posts.

It also has a long public record. Forum threads recommending it note a learning curve, offset by videos and a support forum, and the developer ships fixes often.

How flottra differs

flottra is split in two. The panel at flottra.com holds what should happen and when. A Windows app on your own computer does the work: for each account it opens a real, visible browser and works on x.com through the page itself, never headless. No browser runs on flottra’s servers, and it does not use the official X API either.

• One identity per account. Each account gets a persistent browser profile (its cookies stay in its own folder on your disk), its own proxy, and a fingerprint from flottra’s own Chromium-based engine. Canvas, WebGL, audio, fonts and screen differ per account and stay the same on every launch; time zone and language follow the proxy. Without a proxy the account’s browser does not open. • A warming gate. An account’s age counts from the day it is added: 3 actions a day and no follows for days 0 to 2, 6 a day with follows from day 3, 12 a day with replies from day 7, open from day 14. The warming gate is a limit, not a script that scrolls a feed to look human.
• Fixed pacing. Auto follow works from a list you paste (up to 500 usernames at a time) or from optional discovery through X’s people search, at most one follow every five minutes per account, 6 an hour and 80 a day by default, inside 09:00 to 22:00 on the account’s own clock.
• Posting with your own AI key. One-off text posts from the panel, or a posting routine where the server writes posts with your own Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Mistral, xAI, DeepSeek or Groq key. flottra sells no AI credits.
• Pods and an MCP server. On Pro and Team, a Pod points 3 to 6 of your accounts at one target in mixed order with gaps (follow, like, or a reply whose text you supply). An AI agent can also manage accounts and tasks through the MCP server.
• Profile work and session checks. Display name, bio, website, avatar, header, username and password, one by one or in bulk, plus checks for whether each account is logged in, locked or suspended.

Scale comes from computers rather than threads: each paired PC runs one task at a time and keeps 1 to 6 account browsers open between tasks, and every plan allows unlimited computers. The full list is on the features page.

Where TwitterDub is the better choice

• You need the actions flottra does not have. Unfollowing, DMs and DM auto-responders, retweets, quote retweets, and image, video or audio posts are all in TwitterDub and none are in flottra.
• You want to pay once. $97 on the current offer, with no charge per account, costs less than three months of flottra’s Starter plan.
• You run a large fleet on one machine. Sending requests is typically much lighter than a real browser per account, and TwitterDub does not cap accounts.
• You scrape. User, list and email scraping and live keyword streams have no equivalent in flottra.
• You want captchas solved for you. TwitterDub plugs into captcha solving services; flottra stops and waits for you.
• You want everything in one desktop program. TwitterDub keeps your jobs in its own database and can restart them after a power failure. flottra’s schedule lives in its web panel.

What flottra does not do

Read this list before you move anything; for many TwitterDub users it decides the question.

• No unfollowing: no non-follower cleanup and no mass unfollow.
• No DMs, retweets, quotes, threads, polls, or image and video posts. Posts are text only.
• No automatic like or reply routine, and no AI-written replies.
• No captcha solving; email or phone checks at login stop and wait for you.
• No account creation, no account or proxy sales, and no datacenter proxies.
• No post analytics, no team seats, and no cloud browsers: if your PC is off, work waits.
• No macOS, Linux or mobile app.

X rules and the risk both carry

Neither tool uses the X API, and X’s automation rules (marked "Updated April 2026") address exactly that. Under what not to do: "Use non-API-based forms of automation, such as scripting the X website. The use of these techniques may result in the permanent suspension of your account." They add: "You may not like posts or hide replies in an automated manner" and "You may not follow or unfollow X accounts in a bulk, aggressive, or indiscriminate manner."

TwitterDub replays the website’s requests; flottra drives the website in a browser. Both are scripting the X website, and flottra does not claim to comply with these rules. The API is not an easy way out for engagement either: X’s API changelog says that on 16 April 2026 "Following, Likes, and Quote-Posts via the API have been removed from all self-serve tiers." API schedulers remain the lower risk route for posting only.

Pricing compared

TwitterDub (from its product page and licence terms, checked 24 September 2026): a "special offer" of $97, down from $127, charged once rather than as a subscription. The licence allows use on three machines, accounts are unlimited, and a full refund is available within 30 days. Card payment goes through a checkout page; PayPal is disabled and crypto or other methods are arranged by email. The pages do not say how long updates are included.

flottra (see pricing): Free at $0 for 2 accounts with no card, Starter at $39 a month for 10, Pro at $99 for 40, Team at $299 for 150, and $4 a month per extra account. Every plan allows unlimited computers; Pods are on Pro and Team only, and everything else is on every plan, Free included. flottra is in open beta: card payment is not open yet, so paid plans are set up directly by email at hello@flottra.com. Prices exclude VAT.

On cost alone TwitterDub wins. Ten accounts on Starter for a year is $468; TwitterDub runs the same ten, or a hundred, for $97. What the monthly price buys is the browser per account, the fingerprint, the warming gate and the panel, not more actions.

Which one to choose

• Choose TwitterDub if you need unfollows, DMs, retweets, media posts or scraping, you want a one-off price with unlimited accounts, or you want captchas solved automatically.
• Choose flottra if your work is mostly following, text posting and profile upkeep, you want each account in its own real browser with its own proxy and fingerprint, you want new accounts held back by age without configuring it, or you want to schedule from a web panel or an AI agent.
• Some people will want both, on different accounts. Do not run both tools on the same account: two sessions with different behaviour on one account is the kind of inconsistency you are trying to avoid.

Moving from TwitterDub to flottra

1. Export your accounts and proxies from TwitterDub, which supports export of both.
2. Rearrange each line into flottra’s bulk import format, username:password[:email[:emailpassword[:2fasecret]]][:auth_token]. An auth_token cookie is the recommended login; otherwise password plus the 2FA secret works, and the app generates the codes.
3. Give every account an HTTP proxy, residential, mobile or ISP, ideally the one it already uses (proxies for X accounts).
4. Install the Windows app and pair it with the 8 character code from the panel. It only makes outgoing connections, so no port needs opening.
5. Expect the warming gate: it counts from the day an account is added to flottra, not from when it was created on X. Even an old account gets 3 actions a day for its first three days, and routine posting waits 14 days.
6. Stop TwitterDub’s jobs for each account before flottra takes it over.
