flottra vs Typefully: writing tool or multi-account runner

This page is for you if you use Typefully, or are weighing it, and have more than one X account to look after. The short version: Typefully is a writing and publishing tool, and a very good one. flottra is not a better Typefully. It does a different job, and the honest comparison is about which job you have.

Both products were checked on 24 September 2026. Typefully facts come from its own pricing page and its X page; flottra facts come from the product itself.

What Typefully is and does well

Typefully is a place to write for X. You draft in a clean editor, see how a thread will read, and schedule it on a calendar, including in plain language. Its AI helps with ideas and rewrites ("Make it punchier" is one of its buttons) and writes alt text for images. Paid plans add X analytics, and posts can be cross-posted to LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack.

Beyond the editor, its pricing page lists Auto-Plug and Auto-RT, polls, tags and pins, and media uploads (limited on Free, unlimited from Creator).

For more than one account, Typefully uses social sets. Its help article describes a set as "a collection of social media accounts for a person or brand", and "each set has its own drafts, schedule, and analytics". Business adds unlimited users, roles and permissions, comments, Slack notifications and shareable draft links, which is what a small agency or a founder with a ghostwriter wants. Typefully also offers its own API, an MCP server and agent skills, even on the free plan.

The part that matters most in this comparison: Typefully publishes through X's official API. It does not drive the X website, so a scheduled post from Typefully is the kind of automation X permits.

How flottra differs

flottra is built for the person who has many X accounts, not one account worth writing well for. It is a web panel plus a Windows app. The panel holds what should happen and when; the app runs on your own computer and opens a real, visible browser for each account to do the work. No browser runs on flottra's servers, and nothing runs headless.

Each account gets its own:

• Browser profile, kept on your disk, so cookies and the signed-in session stay with that account.
• Proxy, which is required: without one the account's browser does not open. Time zone, language and location follow the proxy's exit address. See choosing proxies for X accounts.
• Fingerprint, from flottra's own Chromium-based engine: different per account, the same every time that account opens (background in antidetect browsers for X).

What those browsers do today:

• Follows from a list you paste (up to 500 usernames at a time) or from optional discovery through X people search, paced at no more than one follow every five minutes, 6 an hour and 80 a day per account by default, between 09:00 and 22:00 on the account's clock. Details on the auto follow page.
• Text posts of up to 280 characters: one-off posts you write in the panel, or a posting routine whose text is written with your own AI key, or by your own Claude Code through the MCP server. flottra does not sell AI credits.
• Profile work: display name, bio, website, avatar, header, username and password, one account or many at once.
• Likes and replies, but only through Pods (Pro and Team plans: 3 to 6 of your accounts on one target, staggered) or tasks scheduled over MCP, with reply text you supply.
• Session checks: signed in, locked or suspended.

Over all of it sits the warming gate. It counts from the day an account is added to flottra: 3 actions a day and no follows for days 0 to 2, 6 a day with follows from day 3, 12 a day with replies from day 7, open from day 14. The posting routine does not run in the first 14 days. The full list is on the features page.

Where Typefully is the better choice

• Writing and threads. Typefully's editor, thread preview and AI rewrites are the product. flottra has no thread editor and posts single text posts only.
• Media. Typefully includes media uploads (limited on Free, unlimited from Creator). flottra cannot post an image or a video.
• Analytics. Typefully shows X analytics from Creator up. flottra has no post analytics: no impressions, no engagement figures.
• The official API. Publishing through X's API is the route X's rules permit. flottra drives the website, which X's rules warn against, as covered below.
• Teams. Business has unlimited users, roles, permissions and comments. flottra has no team seats or invites.
• Any computer, and other networks. Typefully runs in the browser and on a Mac, and cross-posts to LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack. flottra is Windows only, X only, and needs your computer switched on.
• Price for one account. Creator is $99 a year. If you write for one account, that is hard to beat, and flottra would give you less for it.

What flottra does not do

Measured against Typefully specifically:

• No threads, polls, quote posts, reposts, images or video. Text posts only.
• No post analytics.
• No team seats, invites or approval flow; no 2FA on the panel.
• No macOS, Linux or mobile app. No cloud browser: if your computer is off, work waits.
• No DMs, no unfollowing, no automatic like or reply routine, no AI-written replies.
• No proxies or accounts for sale; you bring residential, mobile or ISP proxies.
• No official X API. That is the next section.

X rules and risk: official API versus a real browser

X's automation rules (marked "Updated April 2026") list this under what not to do: "Use non-API-based forms of automation, such as scripting the X website. The use of these techniques may result in the permanent suspension of your account." They also say "You may not like posts or hide replies in an automated manner" and "You may not follow or unfollow X accounts in a bulk, aggressive, or indiscriminate manner."

Typefully sits on the permitted side for what it does. Scheduling your own posts through the API is ordinary use, and the same rules allow automated reposts "for entertainment, informational, or novelty purposes" when all other rules are followed. For posting, an API tool like Typefully is the lower-risk route, and this page will not pretend otherwise.

flottra sits on the other side. Driving x.com in a real browser is "scripting the X website", and automated follows and likes are named in the rules. flottra is not compliant with X's automation rules and does not claim to be. What it changes is how the work is done: slow pacing, a warming gate for new accounts, and one browser profile, proxy and fingerprint per account on your own computer. Why no API tool fills flottra's gap: X's API changelog records that from April 2026 "Following, Likes, and Quote-Posts via the API have been removed from all self-serve tiers", and since 23 February 2026 self-serve API replies are only allowed when the original author has mentioned or quoted the replying account. A scheduler on those tiers can publish, but it cannot follow or like for you.

Pricing compared

Typefully, from typefully.com/pricing, checked 24 September 2026:

The two price lists measure different things. Typefully charges per social set and caps posts; flottra charges per account and has no post quota, but you also pay for a proxy per account and, for routine posts, your own AI usage.

Which one to choose

• Choose Typefully if you write for one account or a handful of brands, care about threads, media and analytics, work with a team or a ghostwriter, or want the official API route.
• Choose flottra if you run many separate X accounts that each need their own browser, proxy and fingerprint, and the work is mostly follows, profile setup and short text posts, done slowly from your own Windows computer.
• Use both if you have a main account you write for and a set of other accounts to run. That is a common shape, and the tools do not overlap much. For other comparisons, see Circleboom or the comparison hub.

Using Typefully and flottra together

If you keep Typefully for your main account and add flottra for the rest:

• Keep each account in one tool. Your writing account stays in Typefully; the fleet goes in flottra. Two tools posting for one account is how duplicates happen.
• Import the fleet in bulk, one line per account: username:password[:email[:emailpassword[:2fasecret]]][:auth_token]. An auth_token cookie is the recommended way in; otherwise the app signs in with the password and generates the 2FA code itself.
• Give every account its own residential, mobile or ISP proxy before its first task.
• Expect the warming gate: it counts from the day the account is added to flottra, even if the account is years old, so the first two weeks are slow and routine posts wait until day 14.
• Pair the Windows app with an 8-character one-time code. More computers means more work in parallel.
